Arrival in Marseille
Well, the bus station was a kinda weird part of town, but we found our way to the metro & took a ride toward the AirBnB. It ended up getting a bit nicer over there, but the city overall was still kinda dirty.
After a couple of days, it had a specific kind of charm that grew on us. But on arrival, it was a bit of a shock to adjust to, so I’d recommend doing some research ahead of time if you plan to visit.
Friday, 26 May
Mostly just hung out in the city and did a bit of clothes shopping. Had a nice relaxing day overall!
Pizza #3 of the trip
This was the middle-rank pizza on our trip. Ended up being pretty good!! Of course, we later found out that this is a big chain in France.
Saturday, 27 May
This was the big day, we got to go on a hike through Parc National des Calanques.
Getting there was a bit of a trek. It was maybe a mile or so walk from the bus stop, through the gorgeous, hilly-ass town of Cassis.
Cassis
Such a classy place, this town is like what La Jolla wants to be.
And walking in through the park entrance, you get a hint of the landscape.
Parc National des Calanques
But the real magic hits once you start walking down the trails, towards the water
Then as you get further down the trails, it gets much quieter but also more beautiful
Finally, we were approaching the most famous of the beaches. We didn’t get all the way down because it was getting late, but still got some great photos.
Back to Marseille for dinner
Ended up finding the hipster part of town, where all of the vegetarian restaurants are
Sunday, 28 May
Ok so we had a pretty chill Sunday. Walked around the city a bit but nothing too crazy. Took a plane home to end the trip to the french riviera!
