Zermatt, Switzerland
Weds 26 July 2023 - Fri 28 July 2023. A ridiculously cool car-free ski town. The city's landscape is entirely dominated by the imposing Matterhorn mountain.

Glacier Express

Holy. Crap.

This was an 8 hour train ride from St. Moritz -> Zermatt. They sell it as “The slowest express train in the world.” The point of this train ride is meant to be an entire experience, with panoramic windows to show off the beautiful views. They have full food-and-drink service, and it is a really classy experience.

We highly recommend this trip once. It was pretty uncomfortable being on a train for 8 hours straight, but still was so beautiful that it’s worth it to try.

The train did stop a few times, so we got a bit of a break to stretch out!

Arrival at Hotel Perren

This hotel was way nicer than expected. Just beautiful. We somehow got a view of the Matterhorn! Then when we went out walking on the town, it really just showed how imposing Matterhorn was over the town. In a beautiful way!

Fondue

Ok, so Katherine is a bit of a fondue-Connoisseur. And this fondue was way above expectations.

Hiking in the forest & mountain

I (Jacob) am happiest when hiking in the forest, exactly like this. Impossible to beat it.

Once we got up there pretty far, there was an enormous glacier!

And eventually, we got to this hotel up in the middle of nowhere, way up on the mountain.

They had food, so we got some nice big iced teas, and a desert with a view.
